For our first IVF... Well, it's pretty darn complicated. So I'm just going to share our calendar.
June 2011
July 2011
Lupron acts by suppressing the pituitary gland (the gland which is normally responsible for triggering ovulation). (Source: IVF1) I will be taking Lupron along with birth control pills before my injectable fertility meds are started. These drug regiment helps doctors control the exact timing of my cycle. Isn't science crazy cool?
I'm also take 2,000mg of Metformin, pre natal vitamins, fish oil and baby aspirin.

Previous IF cycle that resulted in BFN :(
For our August cycle (and IUI number two) we're following this treatment plan (as prescribed by our doctor).
Day 3 (Aug 19) - Day who knows? (Aug 28): Follistim 150 IU
Follistim is a Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH)
How it works:
FSH is a natural hormone that helps eggs mature. FSH tells the ovaries to "get to ready." Drugs like Clomid are taken to tell the brain to make FSH and send it to tell the ovaries to stimulate follicle growth. Clomid didn't seem to work consistently for me (I may be Clomid-resistant) so we have switched to FSH injections, which means we're basically circumventing the brain and talking straight to the ovaries.

Day 7: Ultrasound number 1
This ultrasound is to check the progress of the follicles and the uterine lining.
Day 11?: Ovidrel
Ovidrel is a Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG).
How it works:
The Ovidrel injection is a "trigger" shot to stimulate egg maturation and release from the follicle.

After the trigger shot we'll go into the doctor's office for our IUI.
IUI stands for Intra-Uterine Insemination. The Fertility Plus IUI FAQ will probably answer any and all of your questions about IUI.
